Have you ever been willing to learn to skateboard? Probably yes. Some time ago I had a similar case to solve.

There are numerous things you can try. First check your motivation. Will you give up after any little failure? There are many not nice traps. However, this is doing sport.

Secondly, look at your physical condition. You should be sure of your abilities. Are you too fluffy? Go to a  swimming pool for a few times. Do you have an athletic body? Be proud of it.

Last but not least, money. Can you buy a new skateboard every month? Skateboarding stuff isn't cheap, so better take it into account. You won't be surprised later. This is important because many people are happy with their new hobby, pretty good at what they are doing, but when it comes to spend some money, they get disappointed and leave skateboarding forever.
